The program

Eight exercises. Do them in any order. Equipment needed: one gift, wrapped.

Exercise01

Program yourself into his program

He follows his training plan religiously. So write yourself into it. A sticky note on page one: “Accessory work: dinner with partner.” He will not skip accessories. He has never skipped accessories.

Sets × reps: 1 × every FridayCoach’s note: Use his spreadsheet font. He trusts the font.
Exercise02

Never plan anything the day after leg day

The day after leg day, he can’t walk down stairs, let alone through a mall. Flip it: that’s couch-and-movie day. He physically cannot leave. You win.

Sets × reps: 1 × weekly, non-negotiableCoach’s note: Bring the snacks to him. He will call it love.
Exercise03

Rest days are your days

He believes rest days are sacred because his favorite fitness creator said so. Agree loudly. Then fill every one of them with plans.

Sets × reps: 2–3 per weekCoach’s note: Say “recovery is where the gains happen.” Watch him nod.
Exercise04

Become his spotter

Can’t beat the gym? Join it. Couples who lift together spend time together, by definition. You get his attention, he gets someone to count his reps out loud.

Sets × reps: 3 × per weekCoach’s note: Count slightly wrong. Extends the session, and the bonding.
Exercise05

Make meal prep a date

Every Sunday he cooks 40 chicken breasts alone like a lighthouse keeper. Put on music, pour something festive, and cook with him. It’s a date with a protein target.

Sets × reps: 1 × Sunday, 2 hoursCoach’s note: Sneak in one vegetable. He’ll notice. He’ll eat it anyway.
Exercise06

Declare a holiday deload week

Inform him that “the experts” recommend a deload over the holidays. You are the experts. Lighter weights, shorter sessions, longer brunches.

Sets × reps: 1 week, late DecemberCoach’s note: If he asks for a source, say “the research.” Be vague. Be confident.
Exercise07

Turn the bag into a weekend away

Gifting him the all-day bag? Pack it before you wrap it: his clothes, his toothbrush, and a printed booking for a weekend trip. Surprise, it’s a getaway.

Sets × reps: 1 × per seasonCoach’s note: Pick a hotel with a gym. Negotiate one session, max.Equipment: the all-day bag, $90–$150
Exercise08

Hold the belt hostage, lovingly

Wrap his new belt with a tag: “Redeemable after one gym-free Sunday with me.” He will stare at it the way he stares at a new PR. He will comply.

Sets × reps: 1 × Christmas morningCoach’s note: Do not negotiate. He respects a firm lever.Equipment: the everyday belt, $80–$130

Speak his language

Same plans, better compliance. Translate before asking.

“Your CNS needs a full rest day. I’m worried about you.”

“Dance with me at the party.”

“Mobility work, set to music.”

“Can we stay in bed a bit longer?”

“Sleep is the most underrated supplement.”

what you’ll need

Every good program comes with a kit list. Ours happens to be wrapped.

expected results

More dinners together. Fewer “one more set” texts. A man who is strong, rested, and inexplicably happy to go to your cousin’s holiday party.

Disclaimer: results may vary. Program does not work during a meet prep, a new PR attempt, or the week a new training split drops online. Consult your partner before starting any new togetherness program.

one last thing

but first, give him a gift he’ll always remember

Every program needs a strong start. The right gift is the one he reaches for every session, and thinks of you every time he does.
